STILL Hamburg receives four awards for safety at work

‘Smart Fox’ 2024 awards for STILL

Hamburg, 24 September 2024 - Occupational safety and the protection of employees are a top priority for the long-established Hamburg company STILL and have been firmly anchored in its corporate culture for many years. The intralogistics specialist has now been honoured for its great commitment in this area with four awards from the German Employer's Liability Insurance Association for Wood and Metal (BGHM). In addition to the general 'Culture of Prevention' award, three specific projects to improve occupational safety at the company's main plant in Hamburg were honoured with the 'Smart Fox' and the BGHM's 'Safety Award'.

Hamburg-based intralogistics expert STILL has received three “Smart Fox” awards and one “Safety Award” for occupational health and safety from the German Employer's Liability Insurance Association for Wood and Metal (BGHM) in 2024. At the award ceremony, the company first and foremost thanked its own employees. It is only through their continuous and intensive commitment that it is possible to ensure such a safe working environment for all colleagues.

"This is a subject that we have been working on intensively for a long time, with the great commitment of many employees, and in which we have achieved a great deal together in recent years," describes Dirk Sadler, Plant Manager at STILL in Hamburg, who accepted the awards from representatives of the BG Wood and Metal, the company's commitment to occupational health and safety. After all, this is about people - about colleagues who give their all every day for the company and the STILL brand. Accordingly, the topic is a high priority for the company: The safety of all employees and the protection of their health are an integral part of STILL's corporate culture and are implemented at all levels through a wide range of measures, from safety training to preventive measures. In addition to three specific projects to improve safety at work, it was the company's ongoing commitment to safety and protecting the health of its employees that was particularly appreciated by the trade association's jury.

Living a community of responsibility - succeeding together

Constructive cooperation between the works council and company management is a key factor for the success of individual measures. "When it comes to occupational safety, everyone works together, explains Dirk Sadler, "so that all employees can go home to their families every day safe and sound." In recognition of this, STILL Hamburg has now received the ‘Smart Fox - Culture of Prevention’ award from the BGHM. The award recognises companies that go beyond individual measures to improve occupational safety in the long term. The Hamburg plant manager sees the award as confirmation and acknowledgement of the intensive work on this subject in recent years: "The people who work here are STILL's most important resource and they should be able to do their jobs as safely as possible. This award is therefore a special honour and at the same time an incentive for us to continue to improve".

Award-winning working environment

STILL also received three other awards for individual projects to improve safety at work. The Hamburg Works Council received the 'Safety Award' for its intensive work on the safety officer concept and its successful establishment within the company. The voluntary safety officers are an important pillar of STILL's occupational safety culture. They receive regular training and play a key role in operational safety within the company. The BGHM awarded two 'Smart Foxes' for the 'Working at Height Training Centre' and the 'Physio Hamburg' project. The 'Smart Fox' award recognises outstanding projects and measures that stand out in a particularly positive way. The training facility, which has been specially installed for STILL's maintenance and logistics employees who work at height, enables targeted training and intensive preparation for the challenging workplace. This allows training processes and the exchange of technical information during training to be optimised and made more flexible. Problems in practice can be identified at an early stage - and solved. In addition, STILL was able to set up and train its own height rescue team. This means that employees can be rescued quickly in the event of an accident. The award also recognised a project by STILL's company medical service which, in cooperation with a Hamburg-based rehabilitation practice, offers initial physiotherapy treatment with the aim of facilitating prevention and developing workplace-specific exercises. In addition, intensive workplace inspections were carried out in various production areas, and workplace-specific improvements in ergonomics and health-promoting practices were initiated and implemented by the company. "We are proud to provide a safe working environment for our employees," concludes Sadler. "The fact that we have now been recognised for this four times is a great tribute to all those who have contributed their ideas and commitment".
