Automated order pickers

The autonomous partner

The autonomous low level order picker reduces the amount of work for operators

The truck follows its operator and always stops at the optimal picking position.

The picking of goods is a diverse and challenging task in intralogistics. In particular, the high levels of passenger traffic in the picking areas as well as very long transport routes pose major challenges for employees.

The OPX iGo can be perfectly integrated into the individual picking processes. The picking employee now has a truck that helps them to work intuitively in a way that was not possible before. The increased picking performance and maximum ergonomics make for a winning combination – and the balance between these two aspects is ultimately important in practice.

With automated order pickers, STILL is the first company to succeed in turning series-produced trucks into autonomous assistants for your operator. This allows an order picker such as the OPX iGo to follow its operator every step of the way. The truck always stops exactly at the optimum picking position and uses artificial intelligence to intuitively adjust the travel path and speed for the task at hand.

  • Productive. The truck follows its operator and always stops at the optimal picking position. Artificial intelligence intuitively adjusts the travel path and speed for the task at hand.

  • Less work. 75% reduction in instances of strenuous and time-consuming mounting and dismounting, with considerable reduction in walking distances.

  • Safe. A multi-stage safety concept protects people, warehouse equipment and goods. Special sensors record all dynamic and static objects in the warehouse.

  • Reliable. The truck utilises the Hybrid Tracking System to identify the individual operator at all times and to follow them – even when a Z-pick pattern is being used.

  • Efficient. Automated order pickers significantly increase productivity compared with conventional order picking.

Applications

Productive: The truck follows its operator and always stops at the optimal picking position. Artificial intelligence intuitively adjusts the travel path and speed for the task at hand.

Precise handling of obstacles: The OPX iGo acts according to the situation. Forklift trucks will either autonomously drive around an obstacle, or – if it completely blocks the path – the truck will stop. In traffic congestion, the iGo neo will enter convoy operation mode and follow the order picker in front.

Extremely high levels of safety thanks to motion tracking sensors: The autonomous forklift truck can distinguish between the operator, other people and obstacles.

Safety concept: A multi-stage safety concept protects people, warehouse equipment and goods. Special sensors record all dynamic and static objects in the warehouse.

Process reliability – even for empty shelves or crossroads: The OPX iGo neo detects empty shelves and passes them. Crossroads are also detected well in advance of arriving at them and the forklift truck will only drive autonomously over them once the driver has checked the way is clear and has approved the journey.

Hybrid Tracking System: The truck utilises the Hybrid Tracking System to identify the individual operator at all times and to follow them – even when a Z-pick pattern is being used.

High-performance order picking: The operator can specify whether the device moves to the first or second pallet position. It is also possible to select a position between the two.

Consideration of individual picking preferences: Simply park the OPX iGo neo in the desired location. The forklift truck will stop autonomously at the exact distance from the shelf as specified by the operator. If a safe distance of 500 mm is not maintained, the truck will rectify this once it is restarted.

Speed is adjusted to the surroundings: If a slower forklift truck is moving in front, or if a queue forms, the OPX iGo neo will intelligently adjust its speed to the situation. Should the picker elect to go on ahead, the truck resumes autonomous operation once the queue has cleared.

LED signal: The LED signal shows whether the truck is in autonomous or manual operation mode.

Personalised order picking: The forklift truck can be adapted to the operator’s preferences. An optical signal shows whether the truck is oriented to the left, right or centre of the shelf.

Total protection: The personal safety system is encapsulated in the front part of the forklift truck, allowing for permanent forklift truck availability.

Taking safety to a new dimension: The optional 3D front camera on the OPX iGo neo detects obstacles across the entire height of the truck.

Everything under control: The remote control allows all important truck functions to be controlled from the operator’s current position.

Intuitive operation: as an alternative to the remote control, the most important functions can be controlled via keypads on the side of the truck.

Customer testimonials

"The OPX iGo can be used extremely efficiently at our largest Metro Logistics GmbH site, as we have very long order picking aisles of over 100 metres and we pick orders 100 percent manually. We’ve already measured 10 to 15 percent performance gains in initial testing and we’re sure that we can achieve even higher increases in other areas where fewer traffic bottlenecks arise."

Peter Kaleck, Operations Manager at Metro Logistics GmbH in Marl
